Friday reflection
New Year's Eve edition
Gold and white image with "Happy New Year" message, tinsel, beads and and confetti
Hello to my dear and very valued paid subscribers! Thank you so much for your support of Mighty Forces Express.
Here is the first edition of the Friday reflection series that is included in your subscription.
Each week, I’ll share a quote, along with a question for reflection.
If you’d simply like to absorb the quote and leave it at that, well, that is just fine! I hope the words I choose can elevate and inspire you.
If, on the other hand, you feel moved to share your reflection — well, that is lovely! I for one will be so glad to hear your thoughts, and ultimately, my hope is that the conversation around each quote can become part of the value this ritual brings to your Fridays.
The Quote
Without further ado…here is a quote from Elizabeth Lesser, who co-founded the Omega Women’s Leadership Center (that’s how I discovered her, at a phenomenal conference I attended there) and is a prolific, wise author and also has all kinds of boring accolades like having not one, but two, TED Talks (here and here) and being on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday multiple times. Her book Cassandra Speaks: When Women Are the Storytellers, the Human Story Changes sits on my desk at all times; this quote is from another book, Broken Open: How Difficult Times Can Help Us Grow.
”May you listen to the voice within the beat even when you are tired.
When you feel yourself breaking down, may you break open instead.
May every experience in life be a door that opens your heart, expands your understanding, and leads you to freedom.
If you are weary, may you be aroused by passion and purpose.
If you are blameful and bitter, may you be sweetened by hope and humor.
If you are frightened, may you be emboldened by a big consciousness far wiser than your fear.
If you are lonely, may you find love, may you find friendship.
If you are lost, may you understand that we are all lost, and still we are guided—by Strange Angels and Sleeping Giants, by our better and kinder natures, by the vibrant voice within the beat.
May you follow that voice, for this is the way—the hero’s journey, the life worth living, the reason we are here.”
Question for reflection
I’m willing to bet that you’re feeling weary, because honestly, I don’t know a single human being who isn’t weary right now. If you were to take Elizabeth’s advice, and “be aroused by passion and purpose,” what might that look like? Again, feel free to simply reflect on this yourself, or share your reflection in a comment.
Wishing you a wonderful new year -
Amanda
