Friday reflection
Owning it
This week, I want to do something a little different. No quote, no reflection — just an injection of joy, right into your soul.
I want you to behold Amy Poehler back in 2013, one week before she gave birth, in all of her feminine glory, f’ing OWNING the place on national television with her Sarah Palin rap. The power and vulnerability simultaneously on display. Her presence as a performer.
This, my friends, is the opposite of playing small.
This is standing in your power, radiating it out for all to see.
I was reminded of this epic performance earlier today on a call with other women business owners, when our coach invited each of us to choose a song or video clip that represented how we were feeling. For a minute, I cast about. And then it hit me: My rage at Roe v. Wade. The primal female power I’ve felt this week through my connections with so many amazing women, helping them birth their ideas and stories into the world. And yes, I used the word “birth” intentionally: We’re all pregnant with things to say, and it’s up to us whether to say them. I feel a veritable baby boom coming.
If you’re marching on Saturday to protest the Supreme Court stripping us of our rights, I’ll see you there (figuratively speaking).
Never forget: you are a mighty force.
